The Kindergarten Institute is an independent school founded in Florence in 1973. It is an international school (our pupils come from U.S.A., Spain, Portugal, France, Germany and some other countries) and it provides a high-profile educational project, directed by Mr Director Mario Amulfi, author of several scholastic books.

The purpose of the Kindergarten School is to provide appropriate educational/instructional services for children full day (7.5 hours, five days per week, 41 weeks - 290 days, from September the 1st to the end of June). Enrollement for the program is open and non-discriminatory.

EXTENDED DAY (before and after school care): this service is included for all the student from 7,30 to 8, 30 a.m. and from 4,00 to 6,00 p.m.

LOCATION The Institute is located just outside the centre of the town in a 15th - century palace, with a large playground area. There is an easy access from viale S. Lavagnini, 11, with a big car parking.

GRADES The educational aim of our Kindergarten School is to help child's psychological and physical development. We offer:

· NURSERY, from 14th month to 3 years
· PRESCHOOL ( kindergarten) from 3, 4 and 5 - year old kids
· PRIMARY SCHOOL for older kids (from first to fifth grade)

NURSERY SCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN

We believe that confidence and self-esteem, as well as cognitive development are best promoted along the natural pathways of play. Our kids learn to play, and play to learn, in classrooms designated areas for art, blocks, games and music. Within this framework, our children enjoy opportunities to cultivate individual initiative, build a sense of community, expand language and logical thinking and develop social awareness.

Approximately 22 children in each class are guided by two experienced teachers. Under their close supervision, children engage in storytelling, drawing, painting, music-making and other activities that allow them to explore and expand ideas about the world. A wide variety of tools and materials promote the energetic practice of key skills: cutting, drawing, pouring, hammering, climbing, counting and running. The skill development lays the foundation for future formal development.

At different times during the day children participate in the pleasures of independent activity, the intimacy of a small group or the unity of the whole classroom. Individuals might spend quiet time with a book or enjoy a private talk. Groups often gather for music, dramatics and discussion. Here children learn to talk about ideas, express feelings and plan and participate in cooperative activities.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

The lessons in primary school start at 8,30 a.m. and last until 12,30, followed by lunchtime served with homemade dishes. A reasonable amount of time is devoted to games and recreation, depending on the age of children. Lessons continue from 2,00 to 4,00 p.m. Kindergarten provides a complete educational program in accordance to the age - appropriate instructional practice and use. This program includes educational experiences in the areas of language, maths, science, music, computer, art and physical development.

EXTRAS We offer extra school activities such as piano lessons and sports (volley, basket, dance, hockey). Transport services are optional and may be provided for any pupil.

INFORMATIONS You may apply at any time. If your child has been enrolled in another school and there are significant records or evaluations from that school, please include them with your application. If you have questions and for further information our e-mail is info@kindergarten.it . We will be happy to answer.

We appreciate the importance of the decision of the school and we are quite willing to spend as much time as needed to help you decide what is right for your child. Though we do not have formal pre-enrollment testing process, we would prefer to meet you and your child before giving a final acceptance.
